What happens on a CBT course?
Once you arrive to the training site, your instructor will look at your documents (including your licence and past CBT if you have one). You'll have a chance to meet the other students, then it's time to get started.
The course is made up of 5 elements:
-
A: Introductions, Eyesight Check, the Legal requirements for riding a motorcycle, helmets and proper clothing.
-
B: Basic Motorcycle Controls & Safety Checks - How to use the Stand, How to move the motorcycle, Switching the bike on and off
-
C: Basic handling of the motorcycle – this is your first time on the bike. You'll learn how to ride in a straight line, use the brakes, steer the motorcycle, change gear (if on a manual), perform a U-turn, an emergency stop and a figure of 8.
-
D: Theory work covering the highway code, being safe on the road, legal requirements, road positioning and attitude.
-
E: Road Ride – your instructor will take you out onto the road to put into practice what you've learned.

Once you have your certificate you can ride a manual or automatic motorcycle or scooter up to 125cc (49cc if you're 16 years old).
-
You must display 2 L-Plates (front and rear), you can't carry passengers or ride on motorways
